History

Our school history consists of two different parts:

On the 18th April 1966 the first Jewish Primary School of a German post-war Jewish community was opened amongst total silence – almost to the exclusion of the public. The Lichtigfeld School was named after its founder Dr. Isaak Emil Lichtigfeld, who was the state Rabbi of Hessen and a Rabbi in Frankfurt from 1954 to 1967.

In 1804, Siegmund Geisenheimer, head of the Mayer Amschel Rothschild bank, formed the Philanthropin. It was made to be a school and an educational establishemnt for poor Jewish children, but also the first school in Frankfurt in which Jewish children would be taught secular subjects and in German.
