Headteacher Frau BrumHeadteacher Frau BrumThe Isaak Emil Lichtigfeld School was established as the school of the Jewish community of Frankfurt am Main in the year 1966 and is consequently the first Jewish School in Germany after the Holocaust. Its most important aim is to educate the children of the members of the community in Jewish awareness and as dynamic citizens of this country. In addition we are open to the wider community. Therefore non Jewish children have been welcome in the school since day one.

School life and the curriculum are moulded by Jewish values and ideals and the yearly flow follows the Jewish calendar.

On the 28th August 2006, the Isaak Emil Lichtigfeld School moved back into the Philanthropin building, which is full of tradition, in the Frankfurt ‘Nordend’, and this therefore ties in with the pre-war history of the Jewish School in Frankfurt, without being its direct successor institution. Rather, the benefits of the pluralistic and diverse world of the citizens of Jewish Frankfurt and its many varied education institutions first have to be taken on board and researched, in order to shape the future so that it links with the traditions of the post-war school.

Today, the school incorporates an ‘Eingangsstufe’, (introductory classes), which from the 2008/9 school year is housed again in the school building in Savignystraße, a ‘Grundschule’ (Primary school) and a ‘Sekundarstufe I’ (first stage of high school). The latter two are situated in the Philanthropin building in Hebelstraße.

In the ‘Mittelstufe’ (Sekundarstufe I) school, the pupils are intensively prepared for the transition to the ‘Oberstufe’ (higher stage of high school) through the G8 system. Should this prove to be too difficult, pupils can remain for a further 10th school year, in order so that they can become sufficiently prepared for the exams to gain the ‘Mittlerer Abschluss’ (the final certification for the ‘Mittelstufe’ phase). Afterwards the route into the ‘Oberstufe’ remains open.

At the focus of the educational work is the child. They should be given the opportunity to develop their capabilities, together with their companions. To go along with it and therefore develop it, in close cooperation with parents, is the primary task of the teaching team. For this the school offers sophisticated teaching, and also personal development.
