Greetings from the school leader of the Jewish community

Our new school. The future has begun.
Or rather, a dream came true!

Dr. Dieter GraumannDr. Dieter GraumannA promise is a promise. Despite the many doubts and doubters, and against many laws of probability too, it worked – the great vision to move the Jewish school back into the greatly refurbished Philanthropin was actually realised. Upon which, we can all be collectively very proud, since the new school is a school for our children, and for our children’s children.

Our school is explicitly open for everyone, of course also for non-Jewish children. Through this we want to exemplify to the children a model of peace and tolerance towards each other. Indeed, our school is a school for everyone, but not for everything.

Our school does not have a multicultural character – it is explicitly Jewish, and nothing else. It is not just a Jewish School; it is specifically THE Jewish school of the city. By being so, the Jewishness is not merely just an added component and also no optional choice. The addition of Jewish religion, culture and history and also of Jewish attitudes towards life and the strength of the Jewish identity are the heart, soul and being of our School. The Jewishness is certainly not all there is to our school. But without the Jewish aspect, our school would be next to nothing. In any case, the exceptionally great expense and effort, with which we all operate the school is worth it, only because we want to transmit Jewish knowledge to our children in this way.

We communicate to our children a piece of Jewish identity. This will be however fundamental for our future as Jews. We have to succeed in winning the heads and hearts of our young people and inspiring them towards Judaism in the correct fashion.

The new I.E. Lichtigfeld School in the Philanthropin: the School of the future has a name, and it will have a golden future – but only if we want it!
