Our High School

The concept of our ‘Gymnasium’ high school:

After ‘Grundschule’ (primary school) our pupils attend our ‘Sekondarstufe I’ (first stage of high school). This consists of:

  • The ‘Unterstufe’ (Classes 5 and 6), and
  • The ‘gymnasialer Mittelstufe’ (Classes 7-9).

We teach all state-required subjects and in addition, 3 hours of Hebrew plus an hour for both Jewish history and Shabbat.

All pupils can attend Classes 5 and 6. In order to obtain the optimum development of the pupils, we work frequently in small groups, for example spelling and mathematical problem solving. It seems that through the smaller class sizes, the more intimate and personal environment, and the individual development, our pupils, as a rule, make the grade much better than in comparable schools.

In Class 5 we begin with English, and then in Class 6 comes French or Latin. In Class 5 the pupils become familiar with standard computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) and they can choose from additional options such as pupil magazines and experimentation.

Whoever obtains the qualification to enter the ‘Gymnasium’ after Class 6 is received into the ‘gymnasialer Mittelstufe’.

We design the compulsory options, if possible, according to the wishes of that particular year group.

This year the following are offered:

  • IT/Computer studies
  • Economics, and
  • Hebrew

The choices for next year are:

  • The Jewish Home
  • Spanish, and
  • Ancient Greek

In general, we try to encourage independent work and actions.
